Fort Cooper State Park
Located at 3100 S Old Floral City Rd, Inverness, FL 34450. Two miles south of Inverness, Fort Cooper State Park is a 710-acre historic site. This beautiful park is home to Lake Holathlikaha and features five miles of trails for hiking and exploring. It’s also a stop along the Great Florida Birding Trail. The park’s wildlife includes bobcats, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, opossum, and herons. In addition to nature, the park offers a picnic area, playground, and picnic pavilions. The park is pet-friendly and offers seasonal canoe and kayak rentals. It’s the perfect spot for a family outing.
The park is also home to the Seminole Heritage Trail. This trail explores the history of the Florida Seminole and provides visitors with insight into their way of life. The trail begins with four interpretive panels and signs that explain the Seminole culture. Visitors can also stop at two kiosks along the trail to get more information. The park also offers an annual re-enactment of the Second Seminole War. The re-enactment takes place in March, and includes arts and crafts, demonstrations, food, and period military encampments.
